City staff are putting together a zero-waste guide for festival organizers.
Councillor Brian White said he's always impressed by the actions taken at Sunfest in London.
"I always marvel at their eco-stations where they have volunteers that are picking everybody's used material from the food vendors and they're sorting it into the appropriate bin, compost, recycling and waste," said White. "I think they do an excellent job at encouraging the best diversion possible and I always admired that, so I think this is a great opportunity to follow suit."
Councillor Nathan Colquhoun would like to see the guide distributed by the city's event coordinator.
"It shouldn't be a burdensome report, it's just making sure that they [events] have the simple directions that they need to be able to create an event that keeps these things in mind," he said.
