Watford woman charged in armed drugstore robbery

A 34-year-old Watford woman faces a long list of criminal charges in connection with a robbery at McLaren Pharmacy Tuesday morning.

Lambton OPP said at about 9:45 a.m. staff at a pharmacy on Nauvoo Road were confronted by a person armed with an edged weapon.

Police say a woman demanded narcotics, forced her way behind the pharmacy counter and began grabbing medication from the shelves. Staff members were assaulted while trying to intervene.

An officer who arrived just as the accused fled the business, chased the suspect to an apartment complex on Ontario Street, where it's alleged the accused barged into four different apartments in an attempt to get away.

Containment was set up around the building and shortly after police went in and arrested the suspect.

Kelly McLean remained in custody on Wednesday awaiting a court appearance in Sarnia on charges of robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, threatening to cause death or bodily harm, theft under $5,000, break and enter, assault, and being unlawfully in a dwelling house.
