Campfires not allowed on public property

Sarnia Fire and Rescue is cautioning residents against having campfires on public beaches. It's illegal to light a fire unless you own the property. Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus said if you don't comply, the fee for service is $400 per hour per truck.

"We would treat it as an unauthorized open burning, which means we'd ask you to put it out. If not, we may do it for you and slap you with a fee for service for coming out."

Meanwhile, Bright's Grove's Canada Day celebrations are taking place Saturday. We're reminded to be extremely careful when setting off backyard fireworks. Have a hose handy, and don't light them off over a neighbour's home.
