Relay for Life surpasses cancer-fighting goal

The Canadian Cancer Society's 18th annual Relay for Life in Sarnia far surpassed its fundraising goal.

Community Fundraising Specialist Paula McKinlay said Saturday that several hundred people took part in the event Friday night at Clearwater Arena Park.

McKinlay said 280 participants took to the track for six hours, 150 cancer survivors celebrated their victory lap, 150 volunteers made sure the event was a success, and there were countless visitors.

She said the event raised $148,000 and they were still counting. The 2019 goal was $104,000.
