Plans for new Watford hall taking shape

Preliminary design work for a new community hall in Watford is complete.

Warwick Township Mayor Jackie Rombouts said they hired an engineering firm to work on the plans, which will see an addition to the arena to replace the aging Centennial Hall.

"A multi-use facility that could be used as a hall or gymnasium, [with] a fully functional kitchen," said Rombouts.

She said plans for a gun range for the Watford Gun Club have been removed from the design.

"Our staff met with the gun club and they have decided that they're going to take their club in a different direction and they're not going to be a part of the new build," she said.

She said the old community centre where Centennial Hall is, has a gun range in the basement, but she believed it was only used a few times a week during the winter months.

The community hall designs were presented to council May 27.
