Council to consider building new Colborne fire hall on existing site

Sarnia council will consider building a new Colborne Road fire hall on the existing site when it meets Monday.

Staff are recommending the hall be demolished and a new facility constructed on the corner of Colborne Road and Michigan Avenue.

Mayor Mike Bradley says the new station is needed.

"There's health and safety issues there, it's with the nature of the building," said Bradley. "Personally, I still need to be convinced on the location. In the past we were told as a council that we should be looking at moving more to the eastern part of the city, where the growth is occuring and then still serve this particular region."

Bradley expects council will likely support the recommendation to build on the current site.

"It's time to do something with that building. We had all the issues with Scott Road and we do not want to see that develop again. If it's a choice of finding a location, versus getting on with the project, I'll support getting on with the project."

Council will consider the recommendation during its regular meeting that starts at 4 p.m
