Legionnaires bitten by Vipers to open playoffs

It wasn't the start to the GOJHL playoffs that the Sarnia Legionnaires were hoping for.

They lost 6-2 to the visiting LaSalle Vipers in Thursday night's game at the Brock St. Barn and now trail the best of seven series 1-0.

The Vipers scored four goals in the first period, and led 4-1 after the opening frame. The Legionnaires drew closer with a second period goal, but the Vipers sealed the win with a pair of third period markers, including an empty-netter.

Blake Butler and Aaron Jamieson scored the goals for the Legionnaires. LaSalle had six different goal scorers, including Kory Silverio, Evan Ferguson, and Aaron Shaw.

Sarnia's powerplay was held scoreless on eight chances.

Legionnaires goalie Jakob Knowles made 33 saves on 38 shots faced. Will Tragge made 38 saves on 40 shots in the Vipers net.

Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday night in LaSalle. The Legionnaires host game three on Sunday night.
