Sarnia fire chief announces retirement

The City of Sarnia is losing yet another of its top managers.

After more than 26 years with the Sarnia fire department, Chief John Kingyens is retiring.

The city announced Friday afternoon that Chief Kingyens will call it quits this summer.

He started with the city in 1992 as a firefighter and was promoted to chief in 2013. He also held the role of deputy chief, fire prevention officer, and safety and training officer during his time with the department.

A recruitment process to hire a new chief will begin in the coming weeks.
