No injuries in New Year's Day fire

A New Year's Day house fire on George Street caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze around 7 p.m. after black smoke was seen coming from a basement window.

Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus said they believe the fire was accidental.

"It is not considered to be suspicious I think it's an accidental fire, we're just looking at the exact ignition source still," said Bus.

Bus said firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the basement of the home.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
