Strong winds prompt advisory from conservation authority

Strong northwesterly winds are causing concern for the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority.

They've issued a flood outlook and water safety advisory for the area.

Spokesman Davin Heinbuck said lake levels are already about a half a metre above the long-term average.

He said that, combined with additional wave heights will cause shoreline erosion.

"Generally, the shorelines in this event here that are facing the northwest will be subject to more direct impacts from high waves," said Heinbuck. "Some areas that are low lying, coastal wetland type areas could see storm surge impacts and some flooding inland."

Winds on Monday and Tuesday were forecast to gust as high as 70 kilometres per hour.

The advisory is expected to remain in place through Tuesday before being lifted at noon on Wednesday as the winds die down.
