New fire trucks coming to Warwick

Warwick Township council has ordered new fire trucks to replace its aging fleet.

Mayor Todd Case said they've awarded an $810,000 tender to Carrier Centres Emergency Vehicles for two new vehicles.

"The equipment needs to be replaced in a timely fashion, according to the fire marshal's office, so we've given direction to staff to go ahead and start the process of buying the new equipment," said Case.

A pumper purchased for the Warwick station is hoped to arrive in 2019, while a new pumper/tanker in Watford is expected in 2020.

Warwick's Fire Master Plan Advisory Committee has recommended that a part-time Director of Emergency Services/Fire Chief be hired in 2019-2020 to oversee both Warwick and Watford stations.

Mayor Case said the decision whether or not to transition into a single chief model will be up to Warwick's newly elected council to decide.
