Witnesses help arrest suspected thief

Sarnia police are thanking a pair of concerned citizens who helped in the arrest of an alleged shoplifter around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said a witness saw a man running from a Quinn Drive store with a cart full of products.

An officer was able to catch up to the suspect, who allegedly hid the items in a backpack.

The officer, due to the information received from the witness, was able to form reasonable grounds to arrest the suspect for theft under $5,000 and was later also charged with breach of probation.

During the arrest, police said the accused, a 33-year-old man, became uncooperative which was observed by another witness. Since the officer was alone at the time, the witness stopped to help.

Police are thanking the two citizens for their involvement and assistance in this matter.
