Veteran Journalist Dies

A local journalist who dedicated over 55 years to broadcasting, reporting and writing the news, has died.

Gord Whitehead, 77, passed away August 4 at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital.

The veteran journalist had many roles throughout his career, including some freelance jobs with Blackburn News Sarnia.

He was a former news director at CFPL radio in London, managing editor at Standard Broadcasting CFRB 1010, and later in life a reporter for many newspapers near his home in Parkhill.

According to Whitehead's obituary, he filed his last story from his hospital bed in Strathroy. It was from Lambton Shores council and printed in the Exeter Lakeshore Times-Advance July 25 edition.

A service and visitation for Gordon Whitehead were held August 9 at the M.Box & Son Funeral Home in Parkhill.
