United Way And Sarnia Sting Team Up For Fundraising Announcement

Goals will be on the minds of both Sarnia Sting players and the United Way at this year's Black & White game.

Sarnia-Lambton United Way Executive Director Dave Brown says they'll announce their 2018 fundraising goal at the 13th annual game set for August 29 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

He says they're taking a different approach this year in an effort to strengthen their partnership with the OHL hockey club.

Brown says a number of factors are considered before setting a target.

"First we look at what we raised last year and what areas do we think we might be able to raise a little bit more, maybe where there's greater potential," says Brown. "We also look at the need in our community and the need for our agencies to have some programs expanded. For example, we've lately been increasing our seniors' funding, funding geared to keep seniors safe, healthy and in their own homes for as long as possible."

The annual fundraising initiative officially launches with the Day of Caring on September 11.

Last year's campaign raised over $2-million in support of 19 local agencies. The 2017 campaign also saw the resurrection of the Poor Boy Luncheon and the inaugural Stairclimb for the Holidays.

Last year's goal was achieved despite the campaign lagging behind the previous year's pace for much of the way.
