Annual Music Festival Underway

It has the distinction of being the longest-running music festival in all of Canada.

The two-week long Lambton County Music Festival is underway until Thursday, May 3.

Festival President Judy Inch says it provides students with a chance to showcase their musical talent in front of a live audience.

"It provides a magnificent opportunity for our young people and our music teachers to showcase their talent," says Inch. "They have an opportunity to win scholarships to further their music education as well in front of qualified adjudicators from Windsor, London and Stratford."

Competitions will be held at various locations across Sarnia.

"The vocal and piano competition are being held the first week at Dunlop United, St. Giles Presbyterian and the Sarnia Library," says Inch. "The second week we have choral at Central United and G.L.S.S. with our strings and instrumental being held at St. Giles with our bands' jazz ensembles at St Patricks's on the Wednesday and Thursday."

Approximately 400 students will be competing in this, the 89th year of the festival.
