The Sarnia Sting scored three third period goals in a huge 5-3 comeback win over the Windsor Spitfires on Tuesday night at the WFCU Centre. The victory pulls the Sting ahead 2-1 in the best of seven first round OHL playoff series.
After a scoreless first period, Drake Rymsha opened the scoring for the Sting 53 seconds into the second frame with his second goal of the post season. The lead was short lived, as Windsor's Daniel D'Amico tied the game just 33 seconds later. Cole Purboo put home his fourth of the playoffs 24 seconds after that to put the Spitfires on top 2-1.
Sting defenceman Theo Calvas netted a shorthanded goal at 9:44 to tie the game 2-2, but Connor Corcoran scored three minutes later to give Windsor a 3-2 lead. Hugo Leufvenius appeared to tie the game back up but had his late second period goal waved off due to goalie interference.
Leufvenius got redemption by scoring his third goal of the playoffs with just four minutes left in the third period. Jordan Ernst scored to give the Sting a 4-3 lead shortly after, and Sean Josling scored an empty netter to seal the 5-3 win. Josling and Franco Sproviero also dished out two assists on the night.
Michael DiPietro was busy in the Spitfires crease. He made 33 saves on 37 shots faced. Sting goalie Justin Fazio made 14 saves on 17 shots against.
