A 32-year-old woman was handed a prison term in Sarnia court Monday morning in the stabbing death of her boyfriend nearly two years ago.
Amelia Lynn Walker of Sarnia was sentenced to six years for manslaughter. She was originally charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence.
After time served since her arrest in late April 2016, Walker will serve another three years, one month and 19 days in jail.
She told Superior Court Justice Bruce Thomas that "there's no words to take back what I've done," and that she's sorry for everything. Walker told the court that "if we hadn't been drinking, this would have never happened."
The body of 28-year-old Raymond Thomas White was found in a unit in a single storey row house in the 400-block of Kathleen Ave., in the early morning hours of April 19, 2016. He had been stabbed twice with a kitchen knife and died from a wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead in hospital.
Court had heard previously that Walker is an alcoholic who becomes angry, aggressive and violent under the influence of alcohol.
Justice Thomas recommended referral to an Aboriginal-based treatment centre.
He told Walker that "tragically their drinking led to Tom White's death."
In addition to the six-year sentence, a lifetime weapons ban has been imposed on Walker and she must submit her DNA to the national database.
