In a battle of the top two teams in the Ontario Hockey League the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds edged the visiting Sarnia Sting 6-5 in a shootout.
Drake Rymsha scored twice for Sarnia (42-15-4-1) including the tying goal with 1.22 left in the third period.
Sting associate coach Jeff Barratt says the team bounced back after falling behind 2-0 early in the first period.
"We were down and we kept coming back on them, scoring in the last couple minutes to tie it up, and had some great chances in overtime," says Barratt.
He also had praise for goalie Aiden Hughes who faced 37 shots including 4 in overtime. "He gave us a chance to win in overtime and the shootout."
Sarnia fired 42 shots at Greyhounds' netminder Matthew Villalta.
Cam Dineen, Franco Sproviero and Mitch Elliot also scored for Sarnia while Jordan Kyrou and Jordan Ernst had two assists each.
Kyrou leads the OHL in scoring with 102 points in 51 games.
Jack Kopacka scored twice for the Hounds with singles going to Mac Hallowell, Morgan Frost and Tim Gettinger. Hayden Verbeek had four assists for Sault Ste. Marie.
The Greyhounds earn their sixth straight win, improving to 51-6-2-2 for 106 points. Sarnia falls to 42-15-4-1. The Greyhounds won four of the six meetings between the two teams this season.
Sarnia is home to Owen Sound Sunday afternoon at 2;05pm.
