Funding Boost For County Developmental Services

Lambton County Developmental Services (LCDS) is getting some funding to help offset Ontario's minimum wage increase.

The organization has received $65,900 under the province's Multi-Year Residential Planning Strategy.

LCDS Executive Director Tom McCallum says the money will ensure their services are kept at a high level.

It's also expected to reduce waitlists, improve living spaces, and create more capacity.

"We appreciate the minimum wage going up, but at the same time we really appreciate some funding to help offset those costs," says McCallum. "It's more to stabilize the services that we provide now so that we don't have to cut back on any service we are delivering."

The organization has 280 employees that assist developmentally disabled individuals with residential and day services at several locations across Lambton County.

On January 1, the province increased the minimum wage from $11.60/hr to $14/hr.

It will increase further to $15/hr on January 1, 2019.
