A guilty verdict was handed down Friday against a former top political aide in connection with the Ontario government's 2011 cancellation of two natural gas plants, one of which was later built in St. Clair Township.
David Livingston, the former chief of staff for then premier Dalton McGuinty, was found guilty of destroying documents related to the controversial decision.
He was charged with attempted mischief and illegal use of a computer.
Judge Timothy Lipson found Livingston's deputy, Laura Miller, not guilty.
Prosecutors alleged that records had been illegally destroyed to save the Liberal party embarrassment over its decision to cancel the Toronto-area projects in advance of the 2011 Ontario election.
It's estimated the decision cost taxpayers as much as $1.1-billion.
One of the plants was relocated from Mississauga to St. Clair Township near the shuttered Lambton Generating Station.
The Greenfield South Power Corporation facility on Oil Springs Line began generating electricity for the Ontario market in March of last year.
