Lambton Elderly Outreach Purchases New Stretcher Van

Residents unable to sit for long periods have another option to get to their medical appointments. Lambton Elderly Outreach now has a stretcher van, which is used to transport clients with non-urgent needs. CEO Bill Yurchuk says every appointment is scheduled in advance. He says they can travel to most spots across the region, including London, Windsor and Toronto. "The community has been asking for it, especially long term care homes and retirement homes when transporting their residents to and from the hospital or to medical appointments," says Yurchuk. "There is an alternative in town, but we're just trying to give an alternative to Lambton Community Living with a not-for-profit fee structure." Yurchuk says the van cost $50,000 once retrofitted with all of the necessary equipment. He says the project was funded entirely by Lambton Elderly Outreach and the Community Support Centre out of Belle River.
