The YMCA's Project North is getting a boost thanks to a $50,000 donation from NOVA Chemicals.
The funding announcement was made at a news conference Tuesday.
The initiative involves indigenous and non-indigenous youth from across Sarnia-Lambton. They learn basic skills in fundraising, philanthropy and leadership, and apply them on a trip to Northern Alberta where they'll work with other youth.
YMCA CEO Jim Janzen says the donation from NOVA is very generous and most welcome.
"NOVA has been a big supporter of our YMCA youth programs in the past, they have been a supporter for three years through our Leaders of Tomorrow skills leadership summer camp," says Janzen. "This is an extension of their commitment to young people and to our community. It's great to have NOVA as a proud supporter."
Janzen says the students are also embarking on a $25,000 fundraiser to fund their Western Canada adventure.
For the past three years, NOVA has also sponsored the YMCA's Leadership Challenge Centre.
