New Year's Revellers Reminded To Plan Ahead

New Year's revellers are being reminded to plan ahead and not drink and drive.

Sarnia Police Constable John Sottosanti says there's no excuse to get behind the wheel intoxicated, especially when there's free transit available and taxis.

He says for the most part, area motorists are obeying the rules of the road.

"Over the last few years I've noticed that on New Years Eve we don't see a huge spike in any impaired drivers," says Sottosanti. "So, we do believe that individuals are getting the message that drinking and driving will not be tolerated and it is a dangerous thing to do. We hope that trend will continue this year and everyone has a very safe and happy New Year."

Lambton OPP will also be conducting ride checkpoints throughout the county New Year's Eve.

Consequences for drinking and driving include vehicle impoundment, suspended licenses, fines and jail time.

Sarnia transit is offering free service from 6:45pm December 31 to 2:45am on January 1.
