More Snow And Bitter Cold To Ring In New Year

2017 will end with snow squalls off Lake Huron and another blast of cold Arctic air.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Watford, the Pinery and eastern Lambton County as well as Middlesex County.

The weather agency says a heavy snow squall currently affecting portions of Huron County is expected to shift southwards and evolve into several snow bands Saturday night into Sunday. This activity should generally remain east of the city of Sarnia.

A snow squall watch remains posted for western Lambton.

Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm (4 -6 inch) per 12 hours will be possible under the heaviest snow squalls.

Arctic air will remain over the region through the first week of 2018 with gusty northwest winds causing bitter wind chills.

The forecast for New Year's Day in Sarnia calls for windy conditions and a high of only -12 C (10 F). -With files from Dave Dentinger
