Military Flight Furor

Sarnia's mayor wants more information about the rumbling fighter jets passing overhead.

Mike Bradley says he's received many calls over the past number of months from people concerned about increased militarization of the border.

"This has been an ongoing issue," says Bradley. "It goes back at least seven years, where two American fighter jets were flying over the city, often concerning people and they're in Canadian air space."

Bradley wants to know from the federal government if they have the right to be there.

"When I raised the issue seven years ago, the commander of Selfridge Air Force Base, quite promptly, apologized and said that should not be happening," he says.

Bradley says there are protocols .

"When the snowbirds come to the city they ask for a letter of permission to fly over the city to do their display. In this particular case, sometimes the Americans are on our side and sometimes on their side and in my view as a sovereign Canadian nation -- they should be on their side."

Mayor Bradley has written a letter to Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland outlining the concerns.
