Trial Date Set For Former Fire Chief

A new trial date has been set for Sarnia's former fire chief Pat Cayen.

Four days have been set aside beginning January 10th that will be heard judge alone.

Cayen will be tried on adult charges after the Crown Attorney withdrew youth charges earlier this year.

He was previously convicted in January 2015 of 19 sexual assault related counts as an adult involving a single victim and 14 offences as a youth involving three victims.

The court of appeal quashed those convictions in November 2016, ruling an error in law was made by mixing adult and youth indictments and allowing similar fact evidence to be applied to both cases.

Cayen was initially charged in late 2012 and his employment with Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services was terminated in early 2013.
