Unique Program Helps Grade 9 Students Adjust

St. Patrick's Highschool is doing its part to alleviate some stress for incoming Grade 9 students.

For the sixth year in a row, the school is holding Link Crew Grade 9 Orientation.

Teacher Danielle Kells says students in Grades 11 and 12 will serve as mentors and leaders for the new students.

"Link really helps these kids make some friends," says Kells. "The groups that the Grade 9 students are put in for their orientation day are going to be the same group that they're with for their lockers. So, they know coming in on the very first day that they're going to see some familiar and friendly faces. They're not going to feel isolated and alone, and that helps get rid of some stress and anxiety."

Orientation is being held Thursday, August 31 from 8am until noon at the St. Pat's gymnasium.

Timetables and lockers will be distributed and lunch will be provided.

The school year gets underway Tuesday, September 5.
