Welcome Relief Coming For Medically Fragile Youth

Construction will begin shortly on a four bed expansion at Standing Oaks in Sarnia.

The home setting rooms are badly needed for medically fragile young adults who would otherwise be institutionalized.

Community Concerns For The Medically Fragile board member Dave Ashdown says the Rotary Club of Sarnia has donated the land behind Pathways Health Centre for Children.

"It's going to go up just to the east of the existing building behind Pathways," says Ashdown. "We will be adding four bedrooms and the living room area within expansion to the living room area as well."

The March of Dimes is helping with the cost, estimated at $700,000 to $800,000.

The non-profit organization also staffs the specialized group home that opened in 2004. Ashdown says that staff complement will rise to care for nine residents as well as those staying in a respite room.
