Sarnia's Mayor Welcomes News On Great Lakes Funding

A proposal by the Trump Administration to eliminate the $300-million Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has been rejected.

Democrats and Republicans on the Republican-led House Appropriations Committee have decided to leave the funding in the 2018 budget -- which is expected to be approved by Congress.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says it's a significant decision for the 30-million people who get their drinking water from the Great Lakes.

"It shows that it wasn't a well thought out idea," says Bradley. "It also shows that Republicans are not going to sell their souls for something that will have a great negative impact on their communities."

The initiative has funded more than 3,000 projects at a cost of $2-billion to date.
