Jail And Bail Changes Pay Off

The recent "Jail and Bail" fundraiser by Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers surpassed expectations.

Program Coordinator Les Jones says they raised over $14,000, exceeding their $10,000 goal.

He says unlike in the past, this year's fundraiser was all done online.

"It was all virtual," says Jones. "People weren't actually locked up, but we did have a fun time. I was the judge and we did have bail court. It will be back next year bigger and better."

Money collected will go towards operating costs for Crime Stoppers as well as rewards throughout the year.

"We don't get any funding from any level of government, so wages for our coordinators -- we have to pay that," says Jones. "There's a lot of fees for Crime Stoppers Canada. We have to pay for the answering service and paying out our tips."

The local branch of the not-for-profit was established in 1986.
