UPDATE: Residents Urged To Be Wary Of Flood Waters

The St. Clair Region and Ausable Bayfield conservation authorities have flood watches posted heading into the weekend with Environment Canada's rainfall warning still in effect.

As of 2pm Friday, just over 25 mm (1 in) had been recorded at Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport, with other areas recording amounts around 50 mm ( 2 in).

The weather agency says the ground is essentially saturated and can't absorb further rainfall and another 30 mm to 50 mm of rain is possible through Saturday.

The conservation authorities says water levels have been rising rapidly and localized flooding is occurring in low lying areas, mostly in agricultural, parkland and flood plain areas.

Residents are reminded to stay away from swollen watercourses.

The authority says the cold water combined with slippery and unstable stream banks, has created hazardous conditions near all waterways.
