Man Beaten In Backyard

A 25-year-old Sarnia man sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by two men in his backyard bordering Germain Park.

At around 2:15pm on Monday, police say the victim was met by a man squared off in a fighter's stance. Police say he was struck in the back of the head by another man with a tire iron and then beaten by both suspects.

The suspects jumped into a vehicle and fled the scene after a witness yelled at them and called 911.

The victim was treated at hospital and later released.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the incident, and is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, three counts of breach of probation, possession of a controlled substance, and several other weapons offences.

The second man remains at large and is described as having long hair, darker coloured skin, dark rimmed glasses, and a tattoo on one of his forearms. Police say he left items at the scene that have been sent away for DNA testing.

Police say this is an isolated incident.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Sarnia police or Crime Stoppers.
