Residents Asked To Avoid Unnecessary Trips To The ER

Last year over the Christmas holidays, record numbers of patients visited Bluewater Health's emergency departments in Sarnia and Petrolia.

Up to 300 people a day came through the doors, during the height of flu season, with doctors offices and walk-in clinics either closed or open limited hours.

There are alternatives to avoid long waits in the ER.

Bluewater Health says Emergency Departments are designed to provide acute care to people with immediate, acute needs. They advise you to know the holiday hours of your family doctor's office and the London Rd. and Wiltshire walk-in clinics.

Check your medications and renew the prescription before your doctor's office closes.

Bluewater Health also recommends calling Telehealth Ontario. The free, confidential service, provides health advice or information. A registered nurse is available to take your calls 24-7 at 1-866-337-1000.
