Kevin Spinozzi picked up a goal and an assist, but the Sarnia Sting lost to the Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena Saturday night.
Despite the loss, the Sting remain atop the OHL West Division standings with 26 points, one point over the Windsor Spitfires and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
It looked like an early runaway for the Frontenacs, who began the game with four unanswered goals. Linus Nyman got things started at 3:05 into the first period with Kingston's first goal. A second Frontenacs goal from Ryan Cranford gave them a 2-0 lead at the first interval.
Nyman would connect again in the second period, and Warren Foegele's goal at 8:43 put Kingston ahead 4-0. Sarnia then began to crawl back into it with Troy Lajeunesse's goal putting the Sting on the board. With a minute and 55 seconds left in the second, the Sting would cut the Frontenacs lead again with Ryan McGregor's fifth goal of the year.
Spinozzi's goal at 7:18 in the third period put the Sting behind at just 4-3. However, Foegele's second goal of the night would give Kingston insurance at 18:39 in the third frame. A goal at 29 seconds left in regulation from Alex Black, his first of the year, would put them a goal behind again, but that would be as close as they would get.
Justin Fazio stopped 21 of Kingston's 26 shots between the pipes for Sarnia, who travels to Flint Thursday night to take on the Firebirds. Kingston is at North Bay that same evening.
