Two Sarnia men are facing charges in a break and enter to the abandoned Sarnia General Hospital site at the corner of George St. and Mitton St.
Around 4pm on January 20, the Sarnia Police COPPS Unit was conducting increased patrols in the area and noticed two men pulling a cart containing two large hockey bags. They were allegedly seen leaving the old emergency door ramp area.
Police say when suspects noticed police in the area, they dropped the cart and began walking away.
Police were able to apprehend one of them but the other fled on foot. Police say the bags contained 140 lbs of copper tubing that had been removed from the building. Break in tools including a pipe wrench, and hacksaw were allegedly seized from a man.
31-year-old Eric Collins is charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000, and possession of break and enter tools.
The second suspect, 41-year-old Eugene Sterner, was arrested January 25. He's charged with break and enter and theft under $5,000.
Both men will appear in Sarnia court at a later date.
