Sarnia Sign Sweep Planned Thursday

City of Sarnia by-law staff will be conducting a sweep of illegal signs on public lands Thursday.

Director of Planning and Building Alan Shaw says it's in response to numerous complaints.

"The majority of the signs are advertisements, which are push-in type signs, placed onto grass areas and adjacent to sidewalks," says Shaw.

Sarnia's sign by-law prohibits signs on city boulevards and intersections.

Shaw says in accordance with the bylaw the city will hold any signs they remove for seven days.

He says they will be stored at city hall and individuals can retrieve them for a small fee.

The public is asked to ensure signs are located clearly on private lands to ensure they are not removed during this time.

If signs have been placed on private land without permission, the property owner has the right to remove the signs.
