A low flying four engine military aircraft that made four passes over the Blue Water Bridge Sunday night around dusk, was indeed involved in a search and rescue operation.
In an e-mail to Blackburn News, the Canadian Coast Guard says it received a report of an abandoned jet-ski spotted half a kilometre south of the international spans on the Sarnia shoreline.
The Coast Guard's Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre in Sarnia advised the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton and issued an urgent marine information broadcast.
A search for a possible person or persons in the water then commenced.
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) says a C130 Hercules Search and Rescue aircraft from CFB Trenton was tasked to search the river, as was a United States Coast Guard helicopter from Detroit.
The CCG Inshore Rescue Boat crew from Port Lambton and a United States Coast Guard vessel from Port Huron also assisted in a search of the St. Clair River and southern Lake Huron.
No one was found.
Officials have determined the jet-ski belongs to an American and the person was not reported as missing by his family.
The CCG says the search and rescue portion of the case is closed.
