Air quality is expected to deteriorate later today as smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario moves into the area. Poor air quality may persist into Friday.

During heavy smoke conditions, everyone’s health is at risk regardless of their age or health status.

Limit time outdoors. Reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Maximum temperatures of 29 to 33 degrees Celsius.
Minimum temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees Celsius.
Humidex values of 38 to 42.

When:
Continuing today. May continue into Thursday for some areas.

Additional information:
Widespread wildfire smoke may limit daytime heating, leading to cooler temperatures than expected.
 
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category.

Blackwater Coffee Company wins for Business Stewardship in the small business category, while Enbridge Green Power takes the medium-large business category. 
 
Brenda Lorenz wins Eco-Warrior and Greenest Classroom is awarded to Mrs. Lumley's Grade 5 class at Rosedale Public School. 
 
Community Stewardship goes to Return the Landscape and Youth or Youth Group is awarded to Brandon Vale. 
 
The winners will receive special recognition at the beginning of Sarnia City Council's regular meeting on May 9. </p>
