Donations Needed For Ecuador

The Canadian Red Cross is appealing for donations to assist the victims of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Ecuador.

The weekend quake killed at least 413 people, including two Canadians, and injured thousands of others.

Red Cross spokesperson Kathleen Kahlon says they're already hard at work.

"Red Cross volunteers in Ecuador responded immediately after the earthquake and were assisting with rescue operations, the evacuation of people and medical care," says Kahlon.

"Once search and rescue has concluded, food, water, and sanitation, and shelter are an immediate priority."

Kahlon says monetary donations are preferred. You can visit www.redcross.ca for more information or visit their office on East St. in Sarnia.

She says the Red Cross isn't looking for donations for the Japan earthquake.

Japanese officials have been able to respond and meet the demand.
