Big Tax Hike In Plympton-Wyoming

Plympton-Wyoming residents are facing another hefty hike in the municipal portion of their tax bill.

The $14 million dollar budget includes millions in infrastructure spending including the replacement of aging culverts, a total reconstruction of King St. and Douglas Line paving.

Mayor Lonny Napper says the average resident with a home assessed at $100,000 will pay 7.2% or almost $39 more per year, although the actual percentage increase will fall to about 3.5% factoring in the County and education levies.

"It's not a great budget," he says. "But it puts us in a place to move forward, especially when the government is looking at your asset management. If you apply for a grant or assistance and haven't made any effort to grow your reserves, your chance are pretty slim."

Council will meet Wednesday, April 13 at 8am to finalize the budget.

Last year Plympton-Wyoming residents were dinged with 7% municipal tax increase.
