Winter Refuses To Let Go

The first weekend of April will look more like winter than spring.

Environment Canada issued a snow squall watch Saturday for snowbelt areas to the lee of Lake Huron including north and east Lambton County.

The national weather service says snow squalls are likely to develop Saturday night and then weaken later Sunday morning.

Strong northwest winds are forecast to develop in the wake of an Alberta clipper crossing southern Ontario.

Flurries and localized snow squalls should develop late Saturday evening or overnight with local snow amounts up to 15 cm (6 in) possible with additional amounts Sunday morning before the off lake streamers weaken.

Forecasters say blowing snow may also be significant with winds gusting to 70 km/h creating near zero visibility at times.

Environment Canada also issued a special weather statement for Sarnia-Lambton Saturday saying snow, heavy at times, and freezing rain are likely from another Alberta clipper late Sunday into Monday.

While there was still some uncertainty, forecasters expect areas from southern Lake Huron southeastward to Lake Erie and western Lake Ontario could receive between 5 cm and 15 cm of snow by Monday morning. Areas along the southern fringe of this swath could see several hours of freezing rain but would likely receive lesser snowfall amounts near 5 cm.
