Imperial Oil appears to be headed to trial as it deals with the legal fallout from a vapour release two years ago that caused a foul stench across much of Sarnia.
The company made its second appearance in Provincial Offences Court in Sarnia Friday morning.
Imperial Oil is charged in connection with a leak from a small pipe at its chemical plant at mid afternoon Friday, February 7, 2014.
Gusty southwest winds caused a strong odour to waft across a large area of the city.
There was no shelter in place ordered for the community but Bluewater Health issued a Code Grey warning of a toxic release outside and shut down its air intake system as a precaution.
Imperial Oil was charged under the Environmental Protection Act in October 2015, for the alleged discharge of coker stabilizer thermocracked gas into the environment that caused or was likely to have caused an adverse effect.
The case has been adjourned until April 18 when the company will appear for a judicial pretrial video conference.
At the time of the release the company said that air monitoring showed no measurable levels of hydrogen sulphide or hydrocarbons downwind.
