'Save SCITS' Rally Monday

Sarnia's Save SCITS group will rally Family Day Monday to raise awareness on the potential school closure.

About 30 volunteers will distribute 900 informative flyers to community members near the high school.

Representative Jennifer George says they hope the Lambton Kent School Board will consider other options, besides closing SCITS and consolidating students at the St. Clair Secondary School site.

She believes the nearly 100-year-old building has valuable amenities, including an auditorium and pool, to help bring in revenue.

"It's a better option for the taxpayers to consolidate at SCITS where all those amenities already are, then to try to replicate them at St. Clair," she says.

Meanwhile, the school board has made the recommendation to close the school based on high maintenance fees at the building, as well as funding reductions and low student enrollment numbers.

Monday's rally gets underway 10am at Team Outfitters on the corner of Mitton and Davis streets. The group will hand out flyers, then meet back at base for lunch and refreshments.

Four Accommodation Review Committee members will be present Monday to answer questions from the community.

The public is also encouraged to attend the next public ARC meeting at SCITS on March 8.
