Ontario St. Assault Investigation Now Homicide

An assault investigation that began Friday morning in central Sarnia is now a homicide.

City police and Lambton EMS responded to the 100-block of Ontario St. just before 10:30am on July 24.

Police previously said they were investigating an assault and two males had been taken to hospital.

A house was cordoned off with yellow police crime tape and members of the Criminal Investigations Branch and Forensic Identification Branch were on scene.

In a news release via Twitter on Saturday, police now say one of the males, taken to Bluewater Health, died as a result of his injuries.

The second victim was transferred from Sarnia to London hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police say, in the morning hours Saturday, a youth, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with second degree murder.

The accused was being held for a bail hearing.

Anyone having any information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Dwayne Whelpley at 519-344-8861 ext. 5300.
