Decision Making Time For Centennial Park

City staff are continuing to sort through public recommendations for the redesign of Sarnia's Centennial Park.

Director of Parks and Recreation Beth Gignac says 173 ideas were generated through their three public consultation meetings and online forum.

Gignac says while they might not be able to accommodate all the ideas with Centennial Park, so some may be incorporated in the city's other 98 parks.

Among the top ideas generated by the public was a safe environment to use, a multi-use gathering place and stage, natural beach shoreline, playgrounds, redesigned boat launch, and accessible pathways. Gignac says public ideas will be presented to city council at its meeting July 27.

City staff have $5.5-million remaining in their budget to complete the remediation and redesign for the park.

A portion of the fence surrounding Centennial Park was originally planned to be taken down in time for Canada Day, but was delayed due to heavy rains washing away the grass seed.
