Germain Park Arena To Close This Summer

After 42 years, Germain Park Arena will close. Sarnia City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve Option 1 of the Arena Management Strategy, which will see the aging rink decommissioned and improvements made to the city's five other ice pads at Sarnia and Clearwater Arenas as well as the RBC Centre. City Parks and Rec Director Beth Gignac says Germain Arena will be mothballed in August. She says future plans for the building will take some time to develop. Option 1 has a net capital cost of about $1-million a year for ten years and a yearly operating cost of about $540,000.
