A few inches of heavy wet snow made for a messy morning commute Tuesday and resulted in school buses being cancelled again across Lambton and Kent counties.
There was reduced visibility during the height of the pre-dawn snowfall and slippery roads but Environment Canada had no warnings or even special weather statements in effect.
The General Manager of Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services Kent Orr says deciding whether to cancel buses can be a tough call.
He says they have road spotters driving throughout the district who collect information on wind speeds, visibility and how much plowing has been completed.
He says they also use forecast models that are available from Environment Canada.
Orr says they have over 300 vehicles on the road picking up over 17,000 students and safety is a top priority when weather conditions are not ideal.
While annoying, the snow will soon be a distant memory with double digit highs forecast by Thursday.
