ICU Bed Reductions At Bluewater Health

Bluewater Health has eliminated two of 16 beds in its Intensive Care Unit in Sarnia.

The downsizing will save the hospital nearly $1-million a year.

Business Director of Medicine Sue Roger says the bed reduction is based on four years of occupancy data at the ICU.

Roger says eight positions have been eliminated through retirements and attrition.

She says they'll be able to perform the same number of surgeries including emergency and elective.

Bluewater Health announced previously it's cutting 33 net jobs to address a projected $6-million deficit this fiscal year.
