Sarnia Police Service has seen a month to month increase in thefts locally.
So far this year there have been 206 reported thefts, up from 162 this time last year.
Police Chief Phil Nelson says many of those could have been prevented.

Sarnia police typically see an increase in crimes of opportunity as the weather gets warmer.
