Diminished Flood Threat So Far

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority says a gradual thaw and little precipitation so far is diminishing the spring flood threat.

Water Resources Manager Girish Sankar says despite significant snowmelt, there's been no serious flooding in the Sydenham River and smaller watersheds draining into southern Lake Huron, the St Clair River and northeastern Lake St. Clair.

He warns though waterways are currently very dangerous.

Sarnia's high of 15.1 C Monday was the warmest in Ontario and second warmest in Canada.

Sankar says ice conditions are precarious and residents are warned to stay away from slippery banks and fast flowing rivers and streams.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says water levels will be higher than normal through the week and there is the threat of ice jamming primarily in the lower portions of the Ausable and Bayfield Rivers.
